This workshop will examine the practical ways teachers can incorporate storytelling as an instructional and assessment method for multilingual learners.
This workshop is aimed at current classroom teachers who want to explore aspects of the English as an Additional Language (EAL) intake process and the EAL benchmarks. During the workshop we will practice assessing EAL student language proficiency.
This workshop will synthesize Nova Scotia’s elementary level (P to 6) curriculum focussed on social emotional learning. We will discuss relevant classroom formative assessment processes, report card completion and informal parent communication strategies, as well as approaches to and uses of population-level assessments.
Educational Professionals will respond to a series of questions about the assessment challenges and opportunities for newcomer students in Nova Scotia Schools (PP-12)
For classroom teachers, the workshop will include a number of practical examples about how to teach and assess literacy for monolingual and multilingual learners.
For high school teachers: activities and techniques to correct English learners’ speaking effectively, but also to reduce their anxiety and encourage them to speak.
This workshop will explore AI-powered feedback tools for efficient writing feedback while addressing ethical concerns. Explore and discuss blending AI insights with teacher expertise, fostering transparency, and enhancing the assessment process in language education.

You will receive an email notification confirming your workshop assignments after the selection process is completed after October 7th.

Check-in:
Upon check-in, you will receive information about your assigned workshop locations.
To receive a certificate of completion, attendance at both morning and afternoon workshops is mandatory.
